A maternal & early childhood cross-sector activation protocol connecting Systems and families without adding burden to the work already being done.

The gap We are focusing on

Children under the age of 5 with elevated blood lead levels often fall through the cracks between detection and services. Lead registries, Early intervention services, health departments, and early childhood programs each hold a valuable piece of the response, but rarely a shared, activated pathway connecting them to the family’s needs.

WHat does APKidZ do?

APKidz establishes a shared activation threshold and defined roles across Early Intervention, Public Health, and Social Determinants of Health in the Maternal & Early childhood health systems, so that when a health disparity is detected, ie, lead, maternal mental health, housing needs, the right partners are already standing by with a clear next step, not just a plan. No new case loads are created, and no new data systems are needed. Just the activation of what already exists.

Who is this for?

This is for Early Intervention programs, central lead registries, health departments, early childhood programs, parent advisory groups, and county-level child health committees in Mercer County and specifically, Trenton, New Jersey.

No level of lead is safe for a child under 5. Let’s ensure that parents are educated on the harmful effects of Lead exposure and how to access the right services for their child’s health, wellness, and development.
